SANTA CLARA — Friday brought the 49ers’ third practice of training camp, and, most important, it offered a look at how Brock Purdy’s surgically repaired elbow responded on back-to-back days of action. Here is a recap of how he and the other three quarterbacks performed:BROCK PURDYAll 18 first-team snaps went his way, just as all 21 did in Purdy’s practice debut Thursday, meaning that his arm showed no ill effects or required any extra rest in his valiant comeback. His best throw was among his final ones: a 25-yard completion to Deebo Samuel over the middle after Purdy’s play-action methods had him turn his back to the defense, then rotate around to find Samuel. He wrapped up a 6-of-12 passing line with his third completion of the morning to Christian McCaffrey. A day after going 3-of-10 with an interception, Purdy nearly had a pass snagged by nickel back Isaiah Oliver as he converged on tight end Brayden Willis. Purdy’s other completions went to Br...

MARTINEZ — A former Contra Costa Sheriff’s deputy who was fired and charged with five felonies had stockpiled e-signatures of superior court judges on a thumb drive found in his patrol car, according to police testimony at his preliminary hearing Thursday.Matthew Buckley, 42, of Pinole, has been charged with not just stealing two assault rifles from an Antioch resident in 2020, but also with forging documents with two judges’ signatures in an attempt to cover up the thefts. But testimony by Buckley’s old colleagues raise questions as to just how far the alleged forgery went, and whether it was limited to the bench.According to the testimony of Contra Costa Sheriff’s Sgt. Jonathan Kirkham, in August 2022, Buckley had been asked to teach a colleague, Sgt. Laurie Bailey, how to properly file and submit search warrant returns. Waller could provide the Giants with the big plays they lacked last season

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — If one thing has stood out in the first couple of days of training camp for the New York Giants, it’s seeing tight end Darren Waller catch passes from Daniel Jones. What has to be exciting for coach Brian Daboll and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka is Waller has been wide open on some passes, caught them in traffic and even taken a hit on a goal-line reception. For a team that has lacked a go-to receiver for years, Waller might turn out to be the answer. And the price was not steep. General manager Joe Schoen sent Las Vegas a third-round draft pick in March for a player who is a major headache for opposing defenses when he is healthy. In 2019 and ’20, Waller caught 197 passes combined for 2,341 yards and 12 touchdowns. The Giants had 17 TD catches last season. Waller was slowed by thigh and knee injuries the past two years, but he looks healthy now.“I want to be able to do everything and just present myself as a viable option to the quarterback ...
