AMSTERDAM (AP) — Climate activists blocked part of the main highway around Amsterdam near the former headquarters of ING bank on Saturday to protest its financing of fossil fuels.Amsterdam Municipality said in a message on X, formerly Twitter, that traffic authorities closed part of the road and diverted traffic “to prevent a life-threatening situation.”Hundreds of activists walked onto the road in the latest road blockade organized by the Dutch branch of Extinction Rebellion. Earlier this year, the activist organization repeatedly blocked a highway leading into The Hague. Some of Saturday’s protesters walked along the closed A10 highway carrying a banner emblazoned with the words “Change or die” as two police vans drove slowly behind them.Another person carried a handwritten banner that said: “ING get out of oil and gas now!”The protest came despite ING announcing earlier this month that it is accelerating its moves to phase out loans for fossil fuel exploration.ING made...Russia says it thwarted a Kyiv drone attack following its own aerial assault against Ukraine

Rural emergency medical service workers are sounding the alarm about a system in a financial and worker crisis that can lead — and in some cases has already led — to increased response times for Minnesotans in a medical emergency.“This has not been a trend that has really surprised people that have been paying attention,” said Becca Huebsch, director of Emergency Medical Services and Emergency Preparedness for Perham Health in western Minnesota. “But now it’s really coming to a breaking point where systems have been underpaid for so long, now they’ve used up their cash stores and they put off big purchases.”For the seven ambulance services that cover Otter Tail County, where Perham is located, ambulance providers are losing $181 per call, according to Huebsch.“Every time the pager goes off and we respond to an emergency, we’re digging ourselves deeper into the hole,” Huebsch said. “We don’t want to stop responding but...Broomfield man charged in wife’s killing impersonated ex-boyfriend, stalked her for months, police say

Prompted by the probing interviewer known as “Curious Mike” in a rare podcast appearance made public this week, Nikola Jokic still politely swerved away from giving a straight answer to hot take television’s favorite question. But as Jokic pondered the options for his current top-five players in the NBA (excluding himself, of course), the names that reflexively occurred to him were at minimum a telling reminder of the basketball generation he recognizes as a forebearer to the rest. Kevin Durant and LeBron James were two of the first four players he floated to teammate Michael Porter Jr. in his non-answer. For those keen on over-reading, it was a subtle and insightful glimpse into Jokic’s mind. What the Nuggets suffered through Friday night was an equally relevant study in the merits of not over-reading, though.Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 40 to lead the Thunder in a statement rout of the Nuggets, 119-93. He drained a cold-blooded game-winning shot in the same...Latest news
