In Israel, a frightened woman runs down the street cradling a young girl in her arms as a car behind her is engulfed in a ball of flames from an unprecedented surprise attack by Hamas militants. In Gaza City, an anguished Palestinian woman embraces the head of a dead man carried by a crowd through the streets after he was killed in retaliation by Israeli forces. The images are just two of hundreds by Associated Press photographers that show the destruction, terror and sadness on both sides of the conflict — and the triumph by some Palestinians who see the attack as a victory. Hundreds have been killed on both sides of the border in fighting that continued Sunday. In Saturday’s early morning assault, a photo shows the smoky trail of rockets from Gaza arcing through the sky against the backdrop of a rising sun. DENVER (AP) -- The New York Jets celebrated Nathaniel Hackett's return to Denver by rallying past the Broncos 31-21 on Sunday behind Breece Hall's 72-yard touchdown run and Bryce Hall's 39-yard game-sealing scoop-and-score off Russell Wilson's fumble in the final minute. That gave Hackett, the Jets' offensive coordinator who was fired after going 4-11 as Denver's head coach last season, a measure of satisfaction. TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — The Israeli government formally declared war and gave the green light for “significant military steps” to retaliate against Hamas for its surprise attack, as the military labored into Monday to crush fighters still in southern towns and intensified its bombardment of the Gaza Strip. Coby White made a strong impression in his first outing as starting point guard for the Chicago Bulls. It’s a position he hopes to hold on to for the rest of the season.Coach Billy Donovan emphasized he hasn’t decided who will start for the Bulls on Oct. 25 in the home opener against Oklahoma, adding that training camp did not create a clear distinction between White, Jevon Carter and Ayo Dosunmu.“To say that, ‘Hey, listen, this guy really separated himself’ — I don’t think that happened,” Donovan said. “Really all three of those guys played well.”But Sunday showcased White’s continued development as a playmaker, particularly in his ability to create opportunities for teammates by generating downhill movement as he logged six total assists. White showed improved skill with the ball in his hands while driving to the rim, building on his ability to pass through traffic and in the air after making an initial r...Celtics takeaways: Kristaps Porzingis shines in debut as C’s win preseason opener
